Silver Tress Band/Material Assistance

Hi Folks:

Since I've been stuck at home...I like everyone else is looking at the collection.

I have this silver tress band or material and when you hold it up to the light...you can see that an oval "something" was stitched on it. It was in a group of German militaria.

What is this silver tress band or material..what could it be?

The measurements are:

10 cm long
5 cm wide

Maybe...this silver tress material was sewn on an armband or....and a disk/insignia/shield/patch was sewn silver tress material...???? Just thinking...
