    SA Stein

Colorful SA mug or stein, I believe this to be an early stein from the 30's and would like your opinions, good or bad. Thanks for your time. Ralph

Yes, I agree that this would look great with most any SA display...though the artwork on this mug is questionable, IMHO. The pole topper shown is not the proper topper.

Of course, this may just be the artist's prerogative...?

Probably international trade agreement related=that's why, even during the war, many items were marked 'Germany'.

I'm not fond of that marking either.

Would think transfer would have to be pre-1934, since the SA lost much of it's influence following the purges....However initial impressions are it's a fantasy piece....Bodes

I believe it's spelled that way.

I checked my porcelain mark references, since I don't have very much on Stein makers, and while I couldn't find this particular crown, I noticed there were a number of porcelain makers that used 'Bavaria' in their trademarks/logos, from 1899 to post war. So, in itself, 'Bavaria' doesn't necessarily rule out the stein.

Photos of flags and pole tops from the early SA.
