    The Berlin Gau Badge 1926-1936

    I welcome everyone.
Tell me by the originality of the sign. Could this be a private order? The sign is made very high quality. Crazy detailing, blackening, gilding of real gold. If this is a copy, then there would be many. I didn’t find anything like this on Internet sales.

    Hello,

this is just a simple copy.

The leafs should be enameled and not just lacquered. The whole quality is far away from original badges.

    Best regards

Just to compare, as said, very far for an original..

        Thanks for answers.
I know what the original sign looks like. The question was not about that. It was understood that perhaps the sign was ordered privately in a private workshop. This, in principle, it could be. It is very well made for a copy. Detailing, gilding, it is evident that the sign is worn. Maybe someone met something like that with just such a sign?

This is an original in my opinion.

I have maintained that this was never intended to be a Berlin Gau Badge.

In my opinion, these were made to honor worthy Berliners for contributions to the War effort. And it was based on the Honor Badge of 1936, but modified by making a round headed ealge, and simplified, no rivets.

As proof of originality, Dr. Doehle's book, the badge that is illustrated in the 1943 and 1945 edition depict this very type of badge. You will notice that the eagle's head in this thread is round topped, as opposed to the flat headed SA eagle on the actual Honor Badge.

I have previously maintained, that when the artist was provided samples of a badge to paint and illustrate for these books, there may very have been no examples available of the 1936 Berlin Gau Honor Badge.

In any event, this was close enough, and the concerns and opinions of 21st century collectors was never considered.

I also own an example of the round top eagle in zinc and paint.

My enamel example has the Lauer maker mark, as do the 1936 badges, same die.

These are period originals, and the proof is in Dr. Doehle's books.

Thank you very much for such an understandable and detailed answer. Maybe you have photos of this sign from Dr. Dole's book? I would be very grateful to you!

                A cast reproduction, unfortunately.

Where did you see the signs of the cast here? The sign is not cast. In the photo it is perfectly visible.

You're quite right, a cast of an original example.

                    Too many dimples, hando, sorry.
                    .
                    Didn't even notice.

                        It's a cast fake.

Why have you not indicated all the surface craters ?

Because they are not signs of cast, but the result of long use.
