    Desk Lamp - Advice Needed

    Hey,

    I just came by this desk lamp and was hoping to get some opinions on it.

      I totally agree. The electric fittings also do not seem to match the period?

          I found the olympic memorial to be quite unusual,

          the lamp is definitely period, I collect art deco pieces and can confirm that everything looks right about it from that perspective. I do believe it to be German as it matches other Jugenstil pieces I've seen.

          Unfortunately, I'm not sure about the carvings and I'm leaning in agreement with most of you.

            The engraving is strange. Not well thought out. The eagle is too large, the top swaz appearing to be the the same without the eagle. No artistic sense, just plonked anywhere as it were. An interesting lamp otherwise.

                Definitely fantasy pieces. The party eagle looks like it was acid etched.

                  I agree--the lamp itself looks fine, but the eagle and Olympic engraving don't make sense. The National Emblem was a protected symbol, so it would have to have been a government award or something like that. Even Hitler's lamps didn't bear an eagle and swastika.

                    I found the name WerkeAG to be very unusual, sort of like a product made my company inc in English.

                    Plus who would ruin a nice deco piece with a serial number right on the front?

                      Maybe it's just me, but this eagle appears to be "Heer/Kriegsmarine" in style. The long, slender, three-feathered wings evoke a Wehrmacht design to me... And, considering that this piece appears to have been either made to be sold as a souvenir at the '36 Olympic Games or at least to have been created to have been used at that major event, something is not right here...

                        The light fixture looks to be from that time frame.... the engraving is post-war to hump up the piece & price is fantasy JMHO. Throw in a couple of those over engraved (SS) pocket watches and a person could have a nice yard sale.
