    South Cross for review

Hello! What are your opinions on this patch? The dimensions of the embroidered part (without backing) are 4.2 cm X 5.4 cm.

    Regards, Lib13.

Old,old, old style repro that was first available from Globe back in 70s/80s. Search this forum for Southern Cross. Threads showing original examples and decree are shown.

Thank you very much!!! In the years 70-80 made from original materials? Nothing shines in the ultraviolet.

These are not even original design. This design is total incorrect. Originals were woven on light green material that was folder back under the shield to be sewn on the tunic sleeve. Search "Southern" for discussion.

I can’t find examples in the search.
          Many thanks for your reply.

Sorry, should have written "production" not "design". The design is correct but materials are totally different from originals.

What is the difference? I found a discussion of woven signs. But not a single embroidered one. Do you have an original to compare?
"The decree initiating this Traditions Insignia on 8.11.1938 specified that the material would be embroidered onto green cotton material. The three field and the five stars on the red field were to be of aluminium-gespinst."

Angolia's book shows an example of an embroidered badge (vol. 2. page 75). The owner of the mark is George A. Petersen. Does anyone know if he is on this forum? I cannot find similar embroidered signs anywhere to compare.

                  Regards, Lib13.

I would not regard the Taylor/Angolia series on police as absolutely correct. There are numerous mistakes and repros in the book. I do not believe George is on this forum. I believe the Southern Cross patch displayed is one of the repros done on green wool. It is not cotton. I cannot find at this time the image of the one I owned and sold. It had silver stars and was embroidered on light green cotton material.

The badge shown in Angolia & Taylor's book contradicts the description in the previous page (the insigne was machine-woven ... the stars and the ... panels were aluminum thread ...reproductions ... exist in the machine-mbroidered version ...)

Thank you Marco for correcting my description. The regulation called for woven, not embroidered. I cant believe I never photographed it. From what I remember, it would have been cut from a roll. The extr green material would have been tucked under and the insignia sewn to the sleeve.
