    Customs Protection Long Service Award

    Good day

I believe this to be a genuine Customs Protection Long Service Award but am I correct?

It appears to be an original ribbon with the correct pin at the top. However it is of a zinc style of construction. You can see the base metal coming through in places.

    Many thanks

      Hi James,

Looking forward to feedback from the experts on your Customs cross because I just bought one of these recently too. Different from the "basic"/typical design I had but I have seen a few of these over the years and always liked this design enough to take a chance if I ever found one.

As far as I am concerned the ribbon is original on yours but incorrect for this medal: it looks 30mm wide and it should be either 35mm or 50mm wide with an embroidered device on the ribbon. I have also seen a pinback version (on 35mm ribbon) with a medal bar device affixed to the ribbon but no idea if it was actually issued that way or a post war set up because the embroidered ribbon itself is more difficult to find than the medal IMO.

The design for mine (attached) is identical to yours but I always thought this medal to be made of tombac because of the thin medal ring but you may be right about it being a zink piece

      Cheers

      JC

These are the Deumer design, or at least the style found on the Deumer 'Barter Boards'. The subject piece appears to be cast zinc (or similar pot metal) which would be a no-no for me personally.

          No

          Also not for me.
you can see a lot of casting marks all over it .

            Thanks folks

Too many red flags for it to be anything other than a fake.

            Thanks again
