Can anyone tell me what thread size Shako Eagle mounting bolts are normally. They seem to be approximately 3mm, but are not I think M3. I am looking to find a nut for one. Did TR Germany use metric threads?

Yes I tried an M3, it was right diameter but wrong thread. Unless mine is an odd one, I can’t imagine what size it is? It looks like a BA thread, but I’m sure the Germans would not have used that. Hopefully someone will knowComment

No idea but have you tried a tap & die set to figure out the thread size? I found this very helpful on a number of occasions while working on old bikes etc. While the more basic sets dont have all imaginable sizes they usually do have little "gismos" (gages might be the proper name in english) that look like folding pocket knives with most NF (nationaL fine) NC (national coarse) & even other thread configurations in metric & standard to accurately determine thread sizes

Thank you, I will try to find a gauge. But I do not have a clue what type of threads TR Germany may have used, Metric? in the UK and I think US it would most certainly be what we call BA. Which is commonly used on older fine brass threads and electrical goods. Even then there are different pitches. Once I know, a brass nut can often be recut with a tap. At least enough to hold a Tschako plate on.

Pas de problème!
Not an issue here but to make things more interesting on old British bikes (Triumphs Nortons & BSAs) you also had "British Wenthworth" (?) which was neiter imperial or metric but something in between. I dont think pitch will be an issue because these thread gages capture both the pitch of the thread as well as the size.
If you dont already own a set of taps & dies I suspect most hardware stores that sell nuts & bolts would have these thread gages ot help customers figure out what they need
Sorry I cant be more useful but my only shako plate (below) has folding clips intead of screws and besides, I'm not sure all makers (Assmann, CTD etc.) necessarily used the same size screws on their Shako eagles.
