    very nice

Hello what you have there is quite special.
that started out life as a 1934 to 1937 2nd pattern.
Now as it didn't have a swasticker when the 3rd pattern was released it didn't look to have much 3rd reich bling.
The holder could send it back to the maker Godet for a re-fit.
The old eagle was taken back flat and a new 3rd pattern type eagle and swasticker added.
This however had to be larger than the standard 3rd pattern one so it could cover the old one.
You can see on my one as with yours the remains of beak and claws under the new one.
I do love these as they give a collection a real great variant.
    love it .Best regards Pete

I agree too but IMO the eagle with swas was added by Godet before the crosses were issued to utilise earlier stock made without the swas.

Just my opinion but there are so many of them around that I can't imagine recipients sending them back to the factory for the upgrade.

possibly a bit of both ??
When the first pattern was issued (6th April ) they were not at war and this meant a lot less medical staff.
Of course over the next 5 months when they were at it more staff were required.
Not sure just how many would be in stock as they knew of the pending change.
          regards Pete
