Hoping for help on a weapons permit and the career of a Wachtmeister

    Hello !

I am trying to reconstruct the career of a Wehrmacht soldier, who must have spent some time with the police.
Before presenting the group (Soldbuch, various documents and a few photos), I would like to clarify some points
in his early career, not documented in the SB.

It would be great, if you could help me with the following questions :
I have only one document fom March 1933, that mentions him as Polizei-Wachtmeister, as residence a Polizei-Unterkunft
and it allows him to carry a weapon.
    1) Could you perhaps explain to me, what kind of permit/license this is ?
    2) The permit mentions his rank as Wachtmeister. Is it possible to say, to which rank in the Heer this would correspond ?
    3) I have a photo from him (see below), dated 13.III.1938, with the rank of Oberfeldwebel. In addition, he seems to
wear a ribbon for Dienstauszeichnung IV. Klasse (4 years service, I think).

My theory is, that he served some time with the police and then was taken over by the Heer, when several police units
were incorporated into the Heer in 1935. That could explain his relatively high rank in combination, with only 4+ years of service.
Is that theory plausible at all or am I on the wrong track ?

Any further info, comment or correction would be appreciated ! Some parts of his SB have been dicussed already here :
    http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...hlight=baldauf
and I would like to close some final gaps, so that I can show the full group.

    Thanks and best regards,

    Hello !

Perhaps my post was formulated too confusing or too uninteresting, so that nobody answers, sorry.

It would help me already, if someone could make a statement on the following :
    1) Is the document shown above an original or a fake/fantasy product ?
    2) If Fritz Baldauf was a Polizei-Wachtmeister in 1933, is it possible to say,
how long it would have taken him typically, to achieve that rank ?

    Thanks in advance and
    best regards,

    Archi

I would judge the weapon certification permit to be legitimate and correct. The period stamps indicate the Prussian authority had not yet received the newly design NSDAP associated Prussian ink stamp initiated by Göring. The recipient was born in 1911. As a Wachmeister in 1933, he would have joined the Prussian police in at 18 in 1929 and served as a trainee and in the Bereitschaft for two years before being promoted to Wachmeister. It was not a high rank in the Prussian police.
