Police Shako for Review

Hi,

I just pick up this Police shako and was wondering why its chinstrap is brown. Also, I would like to have opinions of why the screen on the 4 ventilation holes were removed. Thanking you all in advance and hoping to hear from some of you very soon.

The tschako itself looks good to me, as does the front plate from what I can see. A photo of the interior would help. Is there a maker's decal? The brown chinstrap is incorrect. The black top and brims on the tschako indicate that it was used by SchuPo and GemPo. The brown strap is for the Gend.

I have no clue about the air vent screens. I have seen them removed before and always thought it was to improve air flow, but I could be wrong.

Not much to add from what Bill already said above. The only other observation is that I see a 'shadow' around the insignia plate where the wool appears to be closer to the more natural / original form vs. worn faded overall, the insignia may have been replaced. That and the wrong chin strap indicates it may have been stripped and restored. An interior picture would be helpful, like Bill mentioned above.

Here is a photo showing the back of the chin strap. It is all black so I presume the front turned brown from cleaning and rubbing.
