    Police Schirrmeister

    Hello,

I picked up this patch a while ago. I believed it to be a schirrmeister patch for a member of the police. It arrived and it is the small RH pattern schirrmeister patch on a dark green backing not a police green backing. Who would have worn this? I was thinking maybe it was used by the Landespolizei before 1936 when they were training up as Heer guys. Just my guess. Any and all opinions are welcome. Thanks.

Your theory makes sense. Must be rare!

1936 regulations have no specialty patches on dark green. I have a horseman on dark green which I have never been able to identify. I might ungestört some Weimar use. Not NS-Zeit police.

Fred, the Landespolizei uniforms were a lighter grey/green color as shown in the uniform chart I posted here that I was selling on E-Stand. The Rgt. Goring cuff title was a dark green. So the color of this would be suitable. But then there is the question of how far the organization and uniform insignia developed in two years. Did they develop specialty personnel in that time? I don't know.

          Hello,

I was under the impression that the Landespolizei had both dark blue and dark green tunics in the early 1930's while training up. Here is a thread on them:

JohnnyR also postes a nice lighter grey green tunic here: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...=Landespolizei

Fred, the first link you provided used a color chart from the Taylor-Angolia book associating the uniforms with the Landespolizei. Those are the uniforms of those pre-1936 state police forces. The same source with that chart showed colored drawings of the full uniforms including Prussian Landespolziei wearing the grey uniforms I mentioned.

            Check out this uniform chart.

              Hello,

I am talking about the pre-1936 state uniforms of the landespolizei while they were training up before becoming part of the army in late 35, early36. They wore dark blue and dark green uniforms. Most likely state uniforms .

I am asking would this small RH sized police colored schirrmeister patch been worn on that uniform?. Did the Landespolizei have specialty patches. Since they were operating and training as army soldier under the guise of being policemen did they use special insignia?

William, I would love to see this horsemans patch that you have.

Fred, you are wrong, at least in the case of Prussia which had the greatest number of LAPO units. Look at the chart in the link I provided. It shows Prussian Landespolizei and Reviere Polizei uniforms. The Landespolizei uniforms are grey. The Reviere Polizei uniforms are blue.

Fred, here are some images of Landespolizei personnel in their grey-green uniforms. The first is the other image I mentioned from the Knotel book of drawing of uniforms. The image you posted of the other police state uniforms was in the book in addition to this one showing a police general and member of the Wecke LAPO group that became the Goring Rgt.

Following are various copies of LAPO photos. The one portrait sitting was taken in Wurttemburg. The photo of the uniform with Heer eagle was taken in Berlin. The others are not sourced. In the last one, one of the men in the center has some type of disc on his sleeve. The photo is not any clearer. All the images show the early police eagle on a grey-green visor with green band.

                    Joe,

Heer is the regulation stating that they will retain one grey green and two dark blue or dark green uniforms for service dress. These are the uniforms that I am talking about;the dark green or dark blue service dress. Please read the underlined sentences in the photos.

Quite frankly I am skeptical of most of the documentation that Angolia presents in most of his books. His documentation was often shoddy and poorly reported. The dark green or blue uniforms that he seems to be referring to were perhaps the issue police clothing the transferred units had when they were Bereitschaftspolizei. The only uniforms adopted for the Landespolizei in Prussia were those shown above. And if the color of piping and collars was dark green like the Rgt Gen Goring cuff title, if there were specialty patches, why wouldnt they be the same dark green background like yours.

LaPo did have Army-like specialists but we can't know their patches. Can't but echo JoeW why wouldnt they be the same dark green background like yours.
