Dan, that's very true and it tells us not everything is written in stone. This particular medal was hiding in plain view ( i.g. Hessenthal&Schreiber 1940 and the Uniformenmarkt 15.5 1937), still it wasn't a known fact to the general Internet public before 2015. I wouldn't be surprised, should more "unknown" or incorrectly classified objects show up in the future.
