Police Officer arm eagle high on sleeve?

Have any of the Polizei collectors ever seen a period picture of an arm eagle this high up on a sleeve?
Generally the eagle is roughly 1/3 down the sleeve, where as this one is about 1/4 down the sleeve. I've gone through literally hundreds of period photos and can't seem to find any officer jackets with an eagle this high.
Is it possible it's been restored incorrectly?

In short, yes. There are photos of sleeve insignia as low as the elbow and as high as shown here, particularly in the early days of the 1936 consolidated uniforms. The norm is as you say, but the civil police where not very strict about uniform regulations. That said the tunic shown could be restored. Close examination of the sleeve should show traces of previous sewing if that is the case.

      Hi Bill,
      Thanks for the reply.

Here's a close-up of the area around the eagle and although I can't see any real traces of stitching there is a strange mark under the eagle that looks like the bottom of some sort of shield.
I might wait for a more standard example of an Officer tunic to come up for sale.

      Cheers

It does appear a bit high on the sleeve, I checked mine, 14-16 cm down from the shoulder seam is what I'm finding more common. But like Bill said, we've seen them higher and lower before. Also appears to be a 'ghost' of something from the past so it's likely been restored.

          Hello,

I don't care for that eagle at all. An officer of such high rank would certainly be able to afford better. Also the sewing seems new. The felted backing is not "bedded" to the tunic at all, also the backing material is really poor quality.

A shield sounds like a post war city police insignia. If you were thinking of buying this I would suggest that there are better examples to be had.

            Thanks guys,
It pretty much sums up what I was thinking as well.....post war added eagle covering up the traces of a previous insignia (in this case a post war added city police shield insignia most likely as Bill said).

Tunic itself looks good but I just hadn't seen an eagle up so high before, and I doubt it would look any good with another more acceptable officer eagle reapplied lower on the sleeve.

I checked 3 of my Polizei tunics and the eagles are 2 x 14cm down for full oval backed eagles, and 17cm down for a cut-out eagle.

I'll continue my search for a nice worn Officer tunic!

I'm guessing it would have been worn post war with something similar to this on it....
