Gendarmerie Alpinist Badge - L. Klein, Wien

    Hello guy,

Could you help me to identify this strange badge?

I made a quich search, but I didn't find any acceptable answers about it. I have never heard from this firm, and I don't like the eagle's head and the rivets. I saw this badge marked by Souval, Wien, too.

    Thanks in advance!

    Best regards,
    Gabor

The badge appears to be a reproduction. You can see a similar badge in this thread: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...lpinist&page=2

    Authentic badges are extremely rare.

An interesting example of the badge shown above but in "ground dug" condition was recently offered at auction. The heavy clip apparently was removed or came off in some manner revealing the "un-ground dug" surface of the badge beneath.

          Hello Joe,

          Thanks for showing me it.

I see the same on Hungarian auction sites. In many cases, the sellers try to legalize their fake stuff as original ones, in well "used" or "ground dug" condition.

If you search this forum, you will find examples of original badges with the proper maker mark. Klein was the maker and located in Wien, but the mark was different.

Just follow the link W.Unland provided above and also the links within that linked thread...you will find the originals (like Joe mentions) and new examples of what that one you posted started as...one post mentioned it as a reproduction available for 45 Euro.
