I am not aware of any "worn" badges or service disks used by the Germanic State or national police until AFTER WW2. Gerd would be the one to comment on this.

Bill,by worn I presume you mean pin back? Down the examples Streckwaldt is a pin back though vertical. It as the one Alain pictured would be for the police in the Reichslande I believe. The crest is the Imperial eagle. The territory taken in the Franco Prussian war. Ruptured Duck had a simikar one though on a chain but several years ago. I have a photo somewhere.

Thank you. I have learned something new. I had no clue such things were worn, via pin back, during the imperial era. I had always considered pin back badges a US thing.

For your information, in the Imperial period and even after WWI for some time, the letter c was used instead of k in words. The city Köln was spelled Cöln. Direction is the correct period spelling of Directorate.

Here is the example that Bill Shea sold some years ago. Holes were punched in the badge. I never saw the reverse if it was a pinback.

After reading your response I looked further into the spelling and did indeed find it spelt like this elsewhere (circa 1896).
