Hi, that was also my first thought.. no visible weft on the ribbon. But I didn’t know if the first class ribbons were different.. I was unsure.

No, they should still have the weft thread ... this one looks as though it's been aged in tea or something to loose the bright glow.

Better shots of the medal would help but I'm suspicious.

Thanks Ian.. I honestly wasn’t sure if they were/would be different to other medals.

I will see if I can get some better photos, always hard to ask for better photos when people think these are good enough. Hard to explain.

                Hi there ian.
To be rearly honest I have never seen a good LDO cased 1st class .
The top that holds the ring looks odd .This fat type I have only seen originals in the REd cross first Class.
The two types I have do not have this .The thin ring type can be atrubiterd to Godet . but never an LDO box. Here are my 2 different originals
                Regards Pete

                  more

Sorry I forgot to say also I agree with Ian that the medal looks wrong .The neck is far to thin and the ribbon is missing the weave .
                  Regards Pete

                    Hold the fort

Hold the fort there I may have missed judged this one you posted Ian.
There is a maker mark on the ring I have asked Gary to tell me what it is.
This may well be a different maker .The Eagle to the front is for Sure 100% a Godet but the rest may well be by another firm.
Godet supplied the eagle for Stiner and luck when they produced the Social welfare 2nd class as there are original examples of this due to the hing pin and catch set up.
We may have a new id on a different maker that would be great .
                    Regards Pete

There is no MM on the ring. It is just dings from when the ring hits up against the medal loop.

                        nice

                        Well thanks Gary.
I feel this is either an early transitional design from the Red Cross over to Social welfare or we have a Godet eagle on another maker.Dam shame we could not track it down to a mm .
great and rare piece Gary ,nice to see something different .Good to keep learning .
                        Best regards Pete
