    Water police uniform #1

Hi guys, I have an opportunity to purchase this uniform and wanted to get your opinions on it. It's hard to tell from the pictures but it doesn't look like there was any shoulder boards ever applied. Red flag? Judging by the sleeve stripes, what rank would it be?. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. police water buy.JPG

More pictures would be desirable, showing the back and an enlargement of the cuff “rings”.
The lack of shoulder cords is anomalous, Wasserschutzpolizei personnel having worn both shoulder and cuff rank insignia.
SPW officers’ jackets had the front panels closed by a double row of five buttons which are not consistent with an EM/NCOs’ pattern sleeve eagle.
Cuff rank insignia were 7, 9 and/or 16mm wide depending on their combination. A thin “ring” paired to a larger one doesn’t correspond to any rank in the SPW.
    I suspect it’s a German Navy doctored jacket .

What about Kustenpolizei [sp] they wore Navy pattern uniforms?

Narrow 7mm gold stripes are indicating a WSP/MKP NCO Rank , Rottwachmeister to Hauptwachmeister, not a WSP/MKP OFF .
        Second thin stripe ? A specialist ?
        Shoulder Boards are simply missing...

What are the metric widths of the two cuff stripes? Are there three interior pockets?

                MKP perhaps.

As mentioned the cuff stripes do NOT correspond to any WSP rating. Possibly a navy jr. Lt, in the US Lt..jg. Also, didn't WSP tunics have 4 buttons not 5?

I think the late war eagle has been added to a navy tunic.

These machine woven eagles were never issued or used to my knowledge. They were authorized too late in the war for actual use. The WSP was very small and uniform exchange was limited. Every example that I have ever seen has been uncut, and unused.

Hi Joe, There are 2 interior breast pockets and the wider of the two stripes is 7-8 MM wide. I don't have possession of the jacket and am relying on the owner's info. Thanks for your input.

Thanks for your input of information. What limited research I have done concurs with your statement about the number of buttons, however, I have found pictures showing 5 buttons. I don't know if 4 is correct or 5, or maybe both, depending on when in the war? Also shown is the width of the cuff stripes.

Thank you for your additional photographic input, a nice pic of a SPW officer. Note the cuff ring rank combination , two 16mm ones and a 9mm one in the middle which denotes Reverierhauptmann / Hauptmann (also Oberstleutnant with effect from 1944). May I point out that the accompanying eale is not SPW (it shoud be gold colored).

WSP specialist were not indicated by any stripe, actually they had no insignia but for the medical personnel.
I didn’t notice that shoulder cords were missing, from the first picture I could hardly see any trace of them having been there.

Thank you for your additional information. The eagle patch was for sale somewhere (I don't remember where) and they had listed it with the picture so I saved it un-cropped.
