    Strange polizei uniform

Here 2 uniforms from the Gendarmerie museum in Austria.
Note the second uniform without any breast pockets?
Some kind of a waffenrock?? or it seems that the chest pockets were removed???

Unless it's a reflection of the glass, a faint , rectangular sign is discernible on the left breast . I believe that both breast pockets were removed and the tunic was reused post-war.
The German Police termed Waffenrock the service tunic introduced in June 1936 and had no specific parade tunic like the Army Waffenrock.

It does look like there is some fading to the chest area indicating a removal of pockets. Another thing I noticed and maybe just not visible is the seam that typically goes from mid upper pockets down to lower pockets. It's also an earlier Gendarmerie tunic with light brown color (and rank straps by the looks of it), so it also likely had light brown cuffs that were removed. It's almost like they were trying to capture an earlier look. The visor is really not a good match for it

        You are right.
Why would a museum display such a non text book modified piece?
I guess the general public wouldn't know... Agreed even the brown cuffs are gone!

'cause we expect a museum curator be familiar with the relics he keeps, but that's not always the way things work in real life, as we see.
