The tunic lacks the rock cut back panel with belt support hooks...so post war? or were these also made simplified like that?
(perhaps late war simplified back cut?). The rest of the cut is per war time specs...as far as I can tell.
Tabs appear to have been removed... so per post war regs? (shoulderboards remained the same)
I like everything, proper cut, proper horn buttons, proper insignia, removed collar tabs BUT simple back cut...
Not the old style "Rockschnitt".... nor any back belt support ramps in the rear...which are features we like to see,
to make sure its war time era...

Button comparison...text book resin buttons in green material...
So actually also different (upgrade?) but horn buttons were also used if I am not mistaken...
(or is that a jagerschaft-hunting thing only?)Last edited by NickG; 04-20-2017, 04:32 PM.

Hi Nick!
Tunic is definitvly west german post war forestry.
The simple back cut was "officially" introduced in 1949, though until the 60´s some older foresters still wore the old Rock-cut.
The collar tabs were reintroduced in 1949, but finally forbidden in 1955.
The light brown buttons are typical for 1950´s/60´s tunics - they are a sort of plastic and bleached out for some reason. When you look at the back of those buttons most will show correct green colour.
Until the 50´s forestry buttons were always made from pressed, green dyed horn (not resin).
Would rather save the money and wait for a real pre 45 one.
Those can also show some non-textbook specifics, f.e. no slit for the dagger. I have seen two of such unusual tunics from bavarian foresters ( both were owned by the families and name of the wearer known). Ranks were Oberforstmeister and Forstmeister, so they were probably some sort of every day "work tunic" for the Forstamt leaders.
Best
