Your photos are quite dark and make judgements difficult. It appears to be a legit pre-1945 shako but the lack of green cloth suggests post-war use after removal of the cloth. The cockade center color is a bit odd. What is the reverse like? Is the leather liner sewn to the body of the shako with a reinforcing material?

Pickelhaube10 is not your given name isn´t it?

However, pre 1945 Tschako with removed felt. Same as for the other one (which is legit pre 1936) this Tschako shows some repairs and restoration.

Spend the pot an early post war star (like this Braunschweig one), remove the plume and you will have a good early BRD Tschako for display.

The Shako with the black Vulcan fiber body and police national emblem was replaced in 1936 when the new uniform was introduced. The new shako had a police-green uniform cloth covering and a new shako shield. Until February 1938 it was permitted to mix the new and the old.
You shako is a pre-1936 shako with a 1936 national shield. The mix did not end for all police and you could see mixed shakos in the early 40’s.
                  I like your shako.

No big news here.......I'm with you so far ......except the fact, that this helmet is not pre 1936!

Even on the pictures you can notice the removed felt and the paint job.

However, to add some more details, the standard Tschako (pre 1936) will not show Knopf 91 with lug for a parade bush and will not have such sort of fixation for the plume.

I agree with what JoeW and Gerd have mentioned above. That was my first impression, a period piece, green removed, & painted.

                        Thanks for info chaps

I have used a strong magnifier on all stitching, edging etc, and can find no sign of any green cloth remnants, torn off or razor removed on this shako

Nothing what would change my mind of the helmet. All has been said

Somewhere there is a flock of moths with very full bellies. Frame #2 shows major flaking and yet consistently black with the rest of the surface. Cloth was removed do to moth damage? painted black, damage and all?
