I like the construction and the original insignia on the cap. The buttons are usually seen on Bergmutzen and would be a bit a-typical on a standard M43 but would normally not be a problem for me. But what puzzles me is the RBn. I don't like the look of the stamping and it seems to begin with '64' where I would like to see '0', '1'or '9' (but mostly '0'). So for me the stamp is fake which makes me doubt the cap as a whole and pass. So for me probably fake but very well made...

This is a mountain cap, so the brown nut buttons would be fine. The shorter brim and lack of pulldowns are also evidence of the mountain cap cut.

The "P" in "P 43" more typically reads "Po", and this bothers me less than that soft cotton liner material. It could just be washed or the picture - the color and texture would be fine.

I don't know on the RB number. The rest of the cap looks OK, but with such a rare piece of headgear (Mountain police) you'd want to be careful.

              Gentlemen,

Here is a post by Adrian Stevenson about the RB Numbers used in WWII by Germany. It is probably the best that I have seen. Perhaps this will help here.

              Regards,

              Gordon

Thank you Gordon! After reading that I understand that prefixes like '62' have been observed. I was not aware of that. That puts the '64' in the cap in a different positive perspective. I would take my chances if the cap was not too expensive. Anyway for me this is not a mountain cap but a standard M43. IMO the brim is standard size.
