    Amazing Police photo.

    Hello
This photo was taken in "Senne Lager" in 1932.
I am surprised to see one of these policemen wearing a bayonet which is not a german bayonet. I think it is a 1889 belgian bayonet.
Was it allowed by the Police regulation to wear a foreign bayonet?
    Regards

    Alain,

It does look rather like a Belgian bayonet with a German Officer Portepee. Nice catch of an interesting photograph.

The Polizei wore a lot of odd ball equipment during this time period. Since Officers were responsible for buying their own edged weapons some interesting things show up in photographs. There were provisions in most police department regulations that allowed Senior NCOs and Officers to wear the swords and/or knots they wore during active wartime service in WWI. This is most obvious with swords but can be seen with bayonets worn in photos. I suspect this is the case here.

the germans converted and use mod89 Belgian mausers.
So I assume there were some that carried them.

        Thanks Schupo for your comment.
I have another photo showing german policemen and one of them has a shortened S98 Aa in a 84/98 scabbard. It is not an usual configuration for this kind of bayonet.

        Alain
