I purchased the Kripo disk with a original chain from a English dealer at the max show a few years back . I then sent the disk and chain to don bible who authenicated it and gave me a letter . I then purchased another original disk with a copy chain ,that I was told by the dealer was a copy chain and put the original chain on my new disk that I just purchased and put the copy chain on the disk that is now on the forum . I then sold the disk that is on the forum with a letter from don bible and copy chain to a friend who then sold the disk along with a letter from don to Ron wolin . So now I see my old disk on the forum with the copy chain and the letter from don is not with it I hope this clears some confusion .

Several years ago, I did some extensive digging into what WAS an original chain... and what WAS NOT...just for my own satisfaction.
It seems there was NEVER an original chain...and as far as I know there still isn't today.
At one time, a standard chain used for a photography light meter was considered for usage as an "Official Chain." That idea was rejected, and I never found any evidence, that it was ever revived.
An experience that has always stuck in my mind concerning carrying methods for police warrant discs, came about many years ago when I was visiting with a disc collector friend, who was also a captain in the Hamburg State Kriminalpolizei.
After duty hours, and arrangements had been made for his wife to pick us up, we attended a large gathering of Kripo and Zoll (Customs) officers...each of who was carrying a warrant disc. I can't now remember the exact number of officers present...but it was well attended, as it was a "free beer bust" for the off-duty officers.
My friend introduced me to the group and told them of my long-time interest in German police warrant discs. He asked them to allow me to look at their individual discs and observe their method of carry.
We were in a large room with the officers seated at tables. I spent the rest of the evening "table-hopping"...and looking at State Kripo and Customs discs. Of course the discs were all identical except for number...however the method of carry was not.
Some men carried their disc on a chain of various types. Some carried them on a chain with their keys...and others, in a pocket of their wallet or bill-fold...and one "pipe-smoker" (as I was too, at that time)...carried his disc in his tobacco pouch.
Since that time...I have never attempted to identify an "original chain"...on ANY disc that I deemed to be an unquestionable original.
I hope this lays to rest any mention of a chain from my stand-point... as purely guesswork...based on seeing a lot of discs...over the past twenty-five years.Don Bible

And I think we need to put to bed the idea that there are reproductions of these chains. There is no need to reproduce them as they are common watch or key chains.
However, as Joe states, it would be difficult to tie these down to a specific time frame as they are generic unless the chain has date stamps in them such as silver ones do. Even then there is no way of telling if the chain was originally attached to the disc by the holder unless direct provenance or evidence ensues.
As I have told the disc owner privately this chain does not look out of place on his disc as other original have been found with similar.
