At another police WAF-thread the use of the green armband for the water-police at the end of the 1920’s was discussed. There existed one with the indication Wasserschutzpolizei and it was established one existed also with the indication Rheinpolizei. Both indications showed an anchor in the front and one behind the indication was stated. Likewise a green armband existed for the air- and aviation police (Luft-Polizei). Here some global information:
In the Bekleidungsvorschrift für die Polizei und Landjägerei in Preussen (Nr.16 I, part I, Anzugsordnung) from March 21, 1932 (II M 100 Nr. 34/31) with pages 58 and 59 the special indication for officials from the air-supervision police service (fully as Beamten des luftpolizeilichen Überwachungsdienstes) was included: an armband in bright-green cloth with whitish-silver edges and with the indication Luftfahrt-Überwachung, as well as a propeller-insignia. The lettering and propeller were in white silk embroidery. Width for the armband was 9.0 cm. The armband was to be worn at the left upper arm by all officials, but only during service at the airfield.
The armband was mentioned also in the Preussische Verwaltungsanordnungen für die Luftfahrt (Nr.41), issued by orders from March 21, 1929 ( II M 50 Nr. 38/28). From this regulation one can conclude the armband was in use at least since about February 1928 (page A25) as the needed amount for the armbands was to hand over before March 25, 1928 to the Polizeipräsident from Berlin. Exact duties were described in the Dienstvorschrift für die Polizeiflugwachen Preussens (Nr. 42) from 1929. Here it was noted when the armband was said to be worn by Polizei-Flugwachen (Police-Air-Surveillance) during oberserving (Beobachtungsdienst) and signaling (Signaldienst), but also with other important services (for example also at airfields for water-planes - Wasserflughäfen).
Not only an armband with the indication Luftfahrt-Überwachung has been observed, but also with another indication, possibly Flug-Überwachung. The wearing of these armbands ended in the course of late 1934 when these services were taken over by the officials from the Luftaufsicht (Air-Inspection and Supervision), the later Reichsluftaufsicht, as when for them a special gorget was introduced in late 1934.
Is anyone able to show such an armband for the air-and aviation police?
