Polizei Panzer checkered insignia for M43 cap?

    Dear all,

First time I have seen this insignia executed in black for what I suppose was intended for the Panzer M43 cap.

Those M43 Panzer caps were certainly worn as period photos proof, but I always figured them to be with the standard Polizei insignia; has any one ever seen this type in wear?

    Thanks in advance.

Would the backing not be dark blue then?

The discussion tends to be picked up better in the headgear section gentlemen...Without satisfying answer so far, unfortunately.

Perhaps some of you Polizei minded individuals would like to add some juice in the pot?

Silver/white on black backing was standard as per 1936 regs for police cap egles, for all branches other than the WSP. When the trapazoid insignia was introduced the color of the backing was changed to that of the uniform color worn. Green for SchuPo and Gend., blue for fire, and I presume gray on black for those wearing a black uniform. The WSP never had such a cap so no yellow on blue insignia in their case.

The problem comes when one considers that these later war standardized insignia do not specify specific units but rather uniform color. I am of the opinion that the late war machine woven sleeve eagles in gray on black could have been used by panzer OR/ and fire department personnel.

As mention yes firemen wore black caps on occassion. The uniforms were very dark blue, but some seem more black than blue. I dont think volunteer firemen were regulated very much and they used what was at hand. Consequently, I can imagine a fireman buying a black cap with black insignia

I do not have a black backed trapazoid, I have green and blue. I can assume, however; that since a black backed sleeve eagle was made at the time in question, it would be expected that a cap eagle would have been made at the same time.

All of this is supposition on my part. I have no proof one way or the other. I would note that this big nose type of cap eagle is reproduced in Chima, but is also presumed to be an original pattern as well.

Thank you for this elaboration Bill; your observations are much appreciated!

Only real thing that can help us further at this point I suppose; is when a period image of a black Polizei Panzer cap surfaced with such a one-piece insignia on it.
