DR Silverware

Hi Folks: I recently picked these three (3) pieces of "DR" Deustche Reichsbahn silverware. They are numbered "251" and "222"...

The spoon and knife are both numbered "251" for Hitler's Train Press Salon Car# 10251
The one knife is numbered "222" for Hitler's Train Sleeping Car for Staff Car# 10222

Hi Folks: As I've been researching these various Deutsche Reichsbahn rail cars....history shows that these train cars were confiscated by USAREUR and British forces and utilized for rail transport. Probably between West Germany and Berlin etc... When I was in Germany from 1974-76 and later 1980-90...I recall the trains.

I'm sure that were these trains were captured by Allied forces.....the soldiers "liberated" a lot of the silverware. In many cases....there were many pieces on each and every car. German are very meticulous on inventores and records...so these numbers on the silverware are items that went on these cars. These railroad cars were "cattle cars" or freight cars but VIP railroad cars...so everything had a purpose. I'm sure that when these RR cars were captured...the GIs grabbed these items or anything not nailed down.

I do recall working at Giessen (old Luftwaffe airfield) and attending an office party. As I picked some cheese and meat of a plate....I looked at the fork and noticed it was a Luftwaffe messhall fork...and that was 1982 or 1983. Crazy!!!

I'm going to have to let go of the two (2) pieces of DR silverware that were on Hitler Press Train. The knife and spoon with number "251". Asking $650 ea. I'll post on E-stand
