SA/SS Gorget

Hi Guys

A friend of mine asks about this gorget. I'm not the one to tell him if it is any good, or not.

Anyone know anything about it?

Hi Henrik,

There are a few matters that disturb me about this piece:
* The neck chain is not original to the piece; quite different in link design;
* The starburst around the central eagle/swaz is normally gold-colored, thought this one appears to be silver-colored;
* The crimping around the backing cloth is rough and unprofessionally done (the presence of the backing cloth was to protect the wearer's uniform, but this looks like the rough crimping would snag on the uniform fabric);
* I can't see any maker's mark or RZM license number, though perhaps that's because the clips which would bear the maker's stamp are tarnished or because the photo is not clear enough to see?
For these reasons I would not want this piece in my collection. Hope your friend hasn't lost a lot of money on this piece...SA gorgets are usually fairly expensive.
