Info Needed on BMW Luftschutz Helmet

Saw this in an antique store. I don't really know much about helmets but it looked interesting to me. Thinking about buying it. Can anyone tell me if it looks all legit? Liner seems like it's in almost too good of shape, do you guys think that it's been replaced? Anyone know what something like this is worth?

A very nice artifact here, of a style of Luftschutz Gladiator-style Helmet I've never seen before. The shell and chinstrap are undoubtedly original, IMO, though the liner and pads are replacements -- again IMO. I really like the labeling inside, and the stencils and shell finish are in excellent condition.

While I have no idea what a 'good price' should be for such a rare piece -- I've never been a dealer, only a customer -- I think it's worth adding to an advanced helmet collection.

    Best of luck to you,

    Br. James

Sadly, these are widely believed to be made up fakes.........

Surprised to read your note, Ron...are you saying that BOTH the helmet shown by Joec03 AND the one you've now shown us are known fakes, or just Joec03's posting? Does it make a difference that the helmet shown by Joec03 is a two-piece Gladiator and the one you've now shown us is a three-piece?

Fakes or Postwar used factory stocks... is what my "understanding" of these is... The Red Cross example certainly seems to have a postwar liner and has applied "decal" Red Cross emblems (very ???)... also many other factory helmets have appeared on the market... also these types are all over Ebay.

Supposed originals (including the Junckers) are referenced but personally,
unless from a unquestionable vet. lot, I would trust one with a 10 foot pole...

Agree--apparently these can be made to order with the logo of the company of your choice (e.g. Junkers, Mauser, Steyr, etc.) , and the reproduction insignia can also be found on gas mask canisters.
