Removal of the towns names on police badges 1941

    HI,

in November 1941 a new order was given to remove all names of towns, cities etc from the arm eagle badges.

How were they removed? Did they cut of the names or were new badges delivered? I never saw any cut badges.

    Thanks for your advise.

    Bye
    Frank

The naming was removed from insignia already in use, and as new insignia was required it was manufactured without names. The embroidered names were picked out of the cloth, and in some cases the top of the oval insignia was cut off to remove the name. Fire department insignia basically remained named throughout the war.

Here's an example of a cut sleeve eagle that I have had for a long time and always favored because of the stitching remaining on the edge.

Just adding a few more contributions to name removed insignia.

Here is one with the extreme of being 'trimmed' although unknown if originally named at this point but maybe it was.
