Polizei Dienstpass, Many Questions

I picked up another dienstpass with a photo attached. This one was clearly filled in as the Americans were rolling into the area of Halle at the near end of the war.

It only has the KVKwSwords and WW1 Veteran Awards listed in it although he clearly has an Eastern Front Ribbon in his photo. Absolutely nothing is entered of his involvement in the East.

On page 8, his service was a marine pilot ?

What is his final rank on page 9 ? It is all abbreviated.

He was posted to Krakow and Tschernigow, what was his service title, Gend. P??? fuhrer ?

The Tschernigow, (Chernigov) Ukraine post was then scene of many shootings of Jews, with many brought there to be shot from other areas. It also had a few labor camps.

Interesting this was issued on the 2nd of May, 194 and already the eagle and swastika are removed in the stempel.

In WWI, he served with the 2nd Naval Aviation Detachment (airships) with his duty as a Fleugzeug-Obermatronsen (Airship Senior Seaman).

A Bezirks-Leutnant d. Gendarmerie was a District Leutenant of the Rural Police. These were Kriegs-Offiziere or Warrant Officers; older senior NCOs who were promoted during the war to provide officers in less critical units when younger officers were in combat police units.

In Krakow his rank was Rural Police Post Commander. He was in charge of rural police stations/posts that had police authority over sections of the countryside in occupied Poland.

I don't understand why you think he was served in a Police batallion. Except for his service in the Gendarmerie in Occupied Poland for a little over a year, all his other service was in the Gendarmerie in Germany.

Unit entered on line 9 is a town called Tschenigo, should end with a 'w'. It is a town also a district in the Ukraine. He was there 11/41-7/43, that is why he was awarded the Ost 41/42 medal, in the photograph his ribbon is looped through the button hole.

I do not think he was in a numbered police battalion, I just am not clear how the police were organized in the different occupied towns.

I have over 30 police dienstbuchs and dienstpaß', I research the unit histories and I usually am not concerned with ranks entered. I would not have bought it if he had not served outside of Germany.

You must have an interesting collection of service documents Lee. I don't think I have 30. Maybe close to it, but a number are interesting units including some of the police batallions like 101 from Hamburg, and police regiments.

Your man joinged the Wasserpolizei after his discharge from the navy after WWI. After service with them, he was taken into the Prussian Rural Police (Landagerei) and then the Nazi Police.

I see the entry and long service in the Ukraine. The rural police there did provide law and order in the country side where he commanded a Gendarmerei Post. I am sure that they were required to do some combat missions of some sort.
