Here is a Social Welfare 1st class neck cross about which I have some concerns. Much of it appears original to me but there are some oddities to it as well. I've tried to supply some good pictures, please tell me if more are needed. Of concern to me are those parts of the cross and suspension I have circled in blue. On the suspension it appears that there was a lousy job on finishing and removing some of the excess metal, which I had never seen before. I am wondering if this is something indicating a possible fake or just a poor job on detailing. On the wreath at about the 9 to 12 position is my other concern. It shows what appears to be an overkill job on polishing which has seemed to have taken off some of the detail on the leaves. Any comments welcome and muchly appreciated.

I am a police guy and not up to speed on these civil awards, but that aside I can't imagine a "high" award making it through quality control with so many flaws. One maybe, but this has a number of quite obvious die, finishing errors. I did silver work in days past and these "mistakes" are amateur at best and I just can't imagine a firm allowing it to be sold like this.

Could it be that this particular medal was given towards the end of the war when production was not so good?

Those seem like pretty small flaws to question it's originality.

Hard to trust in Godet making a piece with such a lot of flaws, mainly when we are talking about a high level decoration. Anyway the case is ok, and this isn´t a well known fake, so... I can´t say if good or bad, but is the price isn´t a bargain... let it pass. Is the best advice that you´ll get in a forum

Thanks for the feedback. I actually bought this in the forum years ago and have wound up with two. I'm trying to figure out which one to keep and which to sell but wanted to get comments on the finishing on this one to ensure I don't sell something not up to par. I have little doubt on the medal but the leaves on the loop were a concern of mine. The other one I have is uncased and in rougher shape, so the decision is a bit hard for met to make.
