Some nice polizei porcelain into the shop yesterday....

Hello folks. Thought I'd toss a few quick snaps of these pieces of German Polizei porcelain up for your commentary. Just got 'em yesterday. There is a neat square serving bowl, soup bowl, plate, coffee mug and saucer, as well as another piece, which I presume is standard Wehrmacht type...Although the polizei eagle and wreath appears brown in the photos, they're actually dark green....All are by the same maker (save for the Bohemia "H.U." piece), and dated 1942, and are in nice undamaged condition...

Nice additions! Markings look familiar and period. Think they mentioend somethign about making sure the eagle wreath is in the finish and not on top of it. But those pieces do look good!

Thanks Dave. The police insignia is most definitely beneath the glaze on all of them. Don't know why my lousy camera made them look brown instead of green...but then, it's a rather old camera w/ low pixel count. I don't seem to see much by way of Polizei porcelain out there, as opposed to the general services since I've been looking...Thanks for your comments!

How wide is the square serving bowl? If it is 27cm across it is a potato bowl, if it is 21.5cm across it is for vegtables.

Hi David. I don't have a metric ruler handy, however it's 8 1/2 inches square.

That would make it a vegtable bowl, very nice.

Thanks for the feedback gents. I’m curious, does the green color of the insignia represent anything (Schutzpolizei)?? for example?

Green is common to police porcelain, not sure if it was intended to be branch denoting and I have not seen it in any other branch color.

I don't believe green stands for anything specific. I'm also with Dave I've never seen another color.NJ

Ok gents, Thanks again! One asset to these types, is that unlike the standard W.H. / service types, you don’t have to flip the Polizei versions upside down to enjoy the aesthetic of the eagle...
