Nothing wrong with cleaning discs in my mind but I do rather think the disc from Joe looked better with the patina.

Personally, in this case I don't really feel it needed to be cleaned but I can definitely see where you are coming from wanting to restore it to what it should have looked like.

Nice addition Gary and with pedigree.

I have no idea. I used to be a serious firearm's guy, and I did ammo reloading. I was proud of my work, and I remember that I would re-load 30-06 rounds, where the brass case was incredibly tarnished. I would take a reloaded round and incessently handle it, while doing other things.

Same thing. After a short period of time, the brass case would look like it just left the factory.

I cannot be the only person in the world who can do this. You have to be OCD to some extent re prized possessions, and I would not be surprised if it would happen to other collectors.

      Give it a try.

You must have some magic hands! I have done a lot of loading and handling of cartridge cases and nothing I touched ever became clean. Nice disk BTW!
        Looking for a 30 '06 Chauchat magazine.

My preference I like it with the tarnish rather than shiny mint, but each to his own

You are not as obsessive as I am. I was constantly playing with the disk and the 30.06 round.

            And I mean constantly!

In one of Angolia's books, he posed the question about medals. "Would the original holder go on parade with tarnished medals?"

Yes I get that Gary, but for my taste I like patina, on my blood orders for instance I would not clean them. Only one or two exceptions where I have seen crud under the loop and decided to carefully remove with a cotton wool bud. Doesn't make me right, or you wrong. Both ways the disk looks fab!

                  Thanks Jon, for the complement.

Gary, have you ever tested the PH of your sweat/body moisture. I know in some circumstances, a person seems to have a slightly acidic level in their body leading in some cases to marking silver pieces and damaging firearms if not wiped off. I am serious.

The only discs I have cleaned have been ground dug and there I sought to remove the crud and damage to the metal.

What is a Gestaop Disc in this nice condition worth?

I am new one here, but I have lot of collections war pictures and paper items and few medals. Now I want to ask you this police ID disc what I have get. Is this fake or real. It is very heavy and I think that material is copper.

Sorry to say...your disc is a reproduction...with many errors...of an original disc.

                                Silberfuchs,
Search the forum and many good examples shown. Enclosed is a genuine one. Note the disk edge, letters and say the number 2 and 9.
