    Klein Gartner

    Hi Ron .
Klein Gartner. Bascialy translated it meens small gardner.
I think this was awarded to people with gardens turned over to the production of fruit and vegetables for the war effort as well as larger concerns such as allotments.
Looks good to me if well worn. There were diffrent grades also.
Have a look at there of mine.Regards Pete

Well, Ron's badge also has a coffin pin. I cannot imagine that this badge would be actually reproduced. Where is the market?

If Ron's small gardener's badge with its coffin pin is an original, than maybe we are dealing with another collector myth that the coffin pin is post war?

        Jo Rivett, where are you?

Ron's badge is the well known copy sold openly as such by Morigi & others for many years. Here's one being offered for £5.99 on Militaria net http://militaria-net.co.uk/german-ba...adge-p-49.html

          Cheers
          Don

the first pin # 1 was not awarded. It was only a membership badge. Other Pins with different shape have benn given for 10, 20, 30 ore more years of membership in the Reichsbund Deutscher Kleingärtner.

                  oops

Sorry to say Gary i to assumed ( who the hell would fake that ).
Indeed i went down that road without looking properly.
It is clearly stated in the book by Jo Rivet about the Coffin Pin.It states this pin set up has been with us from the 1970s the smaller version of this is known as the clipper plate.
Knowlage is everything. and i didnt have it.
Thanks Gerdan for pointing out this was a membership badge not an award.
                  Best regards Pete

I stand corrected. I am truly amazed.

I guess there really is a market for something as obsure at the small gardner's badge.

At these repro prices, the profit margin must be almost non-existant.

                    Who would of thunk it?
