I am brand new to this forum and I am here because this forum is so highly recommended. I'm here to learn. I have a very elementary knowledge of German WWII awards and insignia. I've been burned quite a few times in the past but I figure if I spend some time here in the company of knowledgeable members I may not play the role of victim as much.
I'd like my first post to be about a sleeve eagle I purchased on eBay many years ago.. When I was younger and more impressionable I was led to believe that this eagle was an "early version SS" sleeve eagle. I have since been told that the patch was a reproduction. I then put it in a box of junk and forgot about it until a couple weeks ago. When I pulled it out of the box I decided to rid myself of it along with a fantasy SS badge. I posted both of these items on a Facebook military sales group (listed as repro items) and asked $25 for the pair.
Someone contacted me and asked to see a pic of the backside.. I obliged.
This individual quickly agreed to buy the set from me.
The day he received the items from me he posted to following on the same sales group on Facebook
He sold it right away! I was shocked to say the least. Was I really misled all these years in thing this was a reproduction? Or is the guy just a rip-off artist looking to take advantage of people?
Frankly as the years go on and I see more and more truly vintage patches the more this sleeve eagle looked suspect even to my novice eyes.
