For what branch would this have been issued? Also, any idea as to value?

    Thanks!!

    Hello,

Your eagle is a Wasserschutzpolizei sports t-shirt eagle.
These were worn during sporting events. Value around $100-$125

    Many repros around.

    Regards,

      Hi William,

Actually, this blue eagle is not for the Wasserschutzpolizei but is the early sport shirt eagle used by the Schutzpolizei from 1934-1936. It was used by the regular police until the 1936 uniform changes eliminated the blue uniform and mandated the green one. Thus, the color and style of the eagle changed to the normally seen green sport shirt eagle in a wreath of oakleaves instead of the one you have in a wreath of laurel. Bill is absolutly correct that these eagles have been well faked in the past ten years, so one must be careful to determine if they are period mercerized cotton or rayon.

I have one identical to yours and was told it's a fake.

          George.
          You're right.
Also, this one looks as if it might have been 'tea-bagged'.

              Dear George,

Thanks for clearing that up. These have always been ID'ed to me as Wasserschutzpolizei, and I could never figure out why such a small unit would need so many eagles . It never occured to me that they were pre-green uniform Schutzpolizei. Makes sense.

              Thanks,

I've got one of these. Have had it for 20 years - and it was visibly aged when I got it (and not from tea stains). Based on that, this eagle is not one of the recent fakes. As to the color, I have a large one that was removed from a sport shirt. Both are a medium-to-dark blue. I think the photo makes the example pictured here appear a bit darker than it is in real life.

                  Update

                  Dave,

You are absolutely right about this one. Blame my poor lighting. Everything came out too dark. I will try and take a better shot as the eagle is much lighter blue and the age is consistent with old cloth and not the tea bag treatment IMO. Let me take a better shot and let's have another look. I've just got a feeling this one might be "right".

                    Better pics of the eagle

Taken in sunlight - hopefully this will better represent the true color of the eagle and surrounding cloth
