    Die for food stamps

    I was lucky too get these four. Made out of some kind of cartboard and all got a number in the top corner.

    Where these test plate's or the bottom plates when they where pressed together.

      If they are paper cardboard they are clearly not printing plates. Cardboard would not stand up to inking or pressing. My guess would be test stampings for the engraver/die maker to correct his plates prior to printing.

          As a former printer who worked for a newspaper company I am familiar with this item. The cardboard-type composition is called "flong." See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flong

              Thanks Larry that's also new for me great to know. I dont think many of these remain after the war.
