    Warrant Disc

I was cleaning out my recently deceased Grandmother's house and found the attached warrant disc. She was a camp survivor from Ukraine as was my grandfather. Everything I've read and compared this to suggests that it's the real thing. Any way to get any additional information regarding this piece. Should I sell it or keep it as an heirloom? I don't really like keeping nazi stuff around the house but it's a very powerful piece of metal to say the least.

It appears to be an original Gestapo Dienstmarke. Information on the issuance of the discs is not available. The advice received on the other forum is sound. I would remark that members of the Gestapo as well as the Kripo and Gemende Kripo were forbidden by official directive to take their discs outside the Reich. So your grandparents incarceration in the Ukraine would have nothing to do with the acquisition of the disc.

Original. The number font is the original style, but they are larger than usual.

There are several Gestapo experts: Don Bible, Joe W, G. Hanson..etc.
However, if you want to go further to the disk, I recommend you read this Bible's book.

Your's is a beautiful example, congratulations on finding an original. As Dave said, most posted on the forum turn out to be post-war fakes. I would really like to know the story of how your grandparents obtained this Dienstmarke. Is your Grandmother still alive? If not, ask aunts, uncles, and cousins if they know any history of your grandparents during and after the war. Sometimes small, seemingly insignificant clues can reveal a lot.

Someone on the other forum threw out a figure of 8,000.00 as a selling price, and while some have sold at that price, they sat on a well traveled militaria site for well over a year before selling. Keep that in mind if and when you decide to sell.

              Good luck!

Thank you for the information, i found out this weekend that She was actually in Belgium while in the camp and not the Ukraine. Unfortuantely she has Passed so I can't ask her for any other details. She does have one cousin that is still alive but she is currently traveling and wont be back for a few weeks. I'll be sure to ask her when she gets back if she knows any other information. I brought it to my local library over the weekend as well and they are ordering Mr. Bible's book for me and doing some research themselves because they are just as interested as I am. I went back to her house this weekend as well and was not able to find anthing regarding to the disc but i did find a ton of magazines dedicated to world war 2. I haven't had a chance to look through them all but they're all at least 30 years old or more. I would post some pictures but i'm still not approved to post an attachment.

You need to join as associate member( I think $25/ year) before allowed to post pictures.
There are some good threads (about the Gestapo) disk in WAF. Check them out.

That is a great start! Good news about your local library helping w/research and ordering Mr. Bible's book, it's rather rare to get such outside help, well outside of the collecting community anyway. Please keep us informed on any new findings.

                    Best Wishes,

                    Marcus
