I have an opportunity to purchase a police dress bayonet with
"L.KZ 3434" on both the guard and scabbard. any ideas?

L=Landjagerei(rural constabulary) Kz=Koblenz, weapon number 3434. Since it's rural, leather scabbard should be brown, same with frog. Any pictures?

what do you think it is worth?, assuming minimal wear and no damage?

Thanks for the pictures? Is the eagle/wreath insignia on the other side? Maker and any other marks on the blade?

What's odd to me is the use of such a high number, although the only other Koblenz rural pol boyo I've seen in the past was marked the same way (see photo). It's common to see low numbers with rural police, mainly below 100, although into the 300 range can be found. So I looked at Schupo Kz marked bayos I've seen and the numbers are low...190 and 341...

well, I did not get the bayonet. Somebody got obsessed with the L.KZ. meaning luftwaffe koncentrationlager. I don't think they ever called them that. So it went higher than it was worth. I did get a nice drilling and a sport mauser engraved to a 3R anthropologist and author of several books on racial theory. I also have pretty good provenience on the rifles, and will work with the surviving family members to firm that up. Thanks to Dave C. for the quick translation of the hieroglyphics. toad

How does that not surprise me, somebody thinking more of the pol property markings than they are You should see the S.S.#### marked pol blades. What goes from simple Schutzpolizei Schneidemuhl to you know what. Aside from that it sounds like you did well.

I would be very careful with this bayonet. The "kz" stamp is from a different die font than the "L" stamp. As Dave said, the Waffe number is also too high. This marking has been altered at some point in time... probably with a screwdriver instead of a legitimate die stamp marking set.

For comparison, here are two Schupo Kz stamps previous posted on the web:
