I should have written M42 . Although the hat had no visor, it was officially called a Tellermutze.

It IS described as a TELLERMÜTZE !!! The Hut is pictured nearby.

I don't know if you were wrong about the colors Tom. The cap looked grey to me rather than police green which was the official cloth color.
