Police sleeve eagle - opinions please

    Hi Guys,

I've read the excellent thread on Police NCO sleeve eagles - great piece of work - thank you!

I have a couple but I could n't recognise a fake one, so I would be very grateful for opinions on this. I thought this may be fake, but really have no idea.

Thanks for looking and for any or

    All the best Guy,

    Hello,

Sorry, but this is a known reproduction. Probably the best made to date. See the thread titled "Famous Reproduction" for a discussion of this pattern.

Agreed, a reproduction. The following pictures are of one I keep handy for a reminder. Your example has evolved a little with a corse wool and with nips.

Thanks Guys - am I right in that the give away are the threads on the back of the eagle's body?

I am really grateful for your replies - it's good to know what's good and what's bad - many thanks again.

That is one of the ways along with just knowing this pattern.

                Dave,

As you may remember from years back when these first surfaced they were all on ORIGINAL used wool, probably from cut up overcoats or trousers. The first run were all really tough as they were on old mother materials and look great from the front. They ended up on many restored tunics. Yours is a later run, after the war time material had dried up and new felted wool was used.

                  Bill,
True although I still can't help to wonder if there are "multi-generations" or runs of this pattern reproduced with changes in materials and construction techniques observed. And unfortunately period wool is sporadically obtainable through various means that include auction sites and clothing collection centers, which could enable the more clever reproducer. You know, it just seems to get worse everyday with the pollution of reproductions.

Very true. Lucky for us whomever is making these seems limited to the same period made machine which consistently turns out the characteristic flaws that distinguish these. At least so far.

Still, not knowing the background, a bit scary.
