Chinese Repro PO tunics

Oh my, it was only a matter of time wasn't it? GOOD looking repro police tunics from where else...yes CHINA, for $250.

At that price very nice work indeed. You couldnt have a seam repaired for that in the US, let alone put this all together. I think most Police officers of the era wouldn't blink at buying one of these, they are of comparable quality to originals.

Both have the same interior and label. NO probably wouldn't fool the experienced, especially the inside, but a little aging here and there and the outside would look VERY convincing.

Bill, thanks for posting these repro tunics...you beat me to it. I noticed these the other day while surfing eBay and added the images to my rapidly growing repro folders. Figured they will likely cause a problem someday or someone will be asking about a humped up example with age.

I posted pictures of these on the police section of re-enctors forum,feed back was that the cut of the tunics was good,but doubts were expressed about the colour being regular field grey as opposed to the correct police green and the piping seemed to be a bit 'day-glow'.John

No reflection on any posts here on the police forum.

I always enjoy posts where supremely confident know it alls proudly proclaim that THEY could never be fooled by a repro. There are some such comments on the armed forces forum about these repros. Well as someone in the collecting world since 1965 I just laugh out loud. Half the great treasures these guys have are repros from the day. Put togethers now 50+ years old that are accepted as real . SS insignia and cuff titles made in the 50's in Germany vetted as the real deal and sold for 1000's.

Now, take these tunics. Throw them around the yard for a while and let them sit out in the sun, swap out the tags, and in a few years you will have the next generation's treasures, and for $200 fakers can afford to do just that. I remember the good old days where dealer's and their wives were busily sewing insignia down right behind the tables at shows and when combat tunics could be purchased by the pound as scrap cloth. I see guys declaring these as 100% untouched since the war and have to smile.

These modern made repros are good and whatever excuses may be presented to pooh pooh their danger to the community, these and the VERY nice insignia quietly coming out of China are in every way as good as the originals. To those that believe in counting stitches and measuring sewing machine thread spacing , well good luck with that. If it could be made in the 40's it can be made now, and in places like China there are plenty of old machines and weaving mills that can put out just about anything. The vaunted "German Quality" that is always thrown out to dismiss less than perfect as bad is total fantasy. Authentic materials were good bad and everything in between. In my own interest, sleeve eagles there are magnificent examples and others that look like a drunken 90 year old blind in one eye made them, but they are both good. Rant over.

I offer these photos as a warning, nothing more. We can all be fooled, I certainly have been over the years. If you choose to stick your heads where the sun don't shine, be my guest.

As I said it in the parallel thread about the waffenrock copies from this maker.
These look good, but if you touch it you will feel the difference immedatly. 50% polyester feels different to 100%wool or real silk....
