Period DAF Plaque?

Im thinking about getting this piece. My two questions are is this a period piece and is 60$ a good price considering the minor damage?

I'm not sure the "minor damage" is actually damage. Given the location of the missing cog at what would become the very bottom of the swaz -- which would make it properly canted -- and the care that was taken to neatly cut the cog away from the ring, it appears to me to be purposefully done, probably to assist in the piece's mounting to another surface or to connect it with something else. That being said, this re-working of the piece does not appear to be of the original intention for this DAF logo, and this piece does not have any visible means of hanging or mounting it as it now exists, so it may have been cut from a larger metal stamping.

There have been many of these available through the years, and not sure what the purpose was for them since as Br James indicates, there is no visible means of mounting.

Missing cog is damage IMO........

Jacques is right so we do not really know what it was set but we know that it's good.
this piece is rather common and not an excessive price.

You really should post this on the proper forum. The DAF is listed under he Political Organizations forum as it is not a civic or police organization. If you search under that forum, you will find some threads like this one http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...&highlight=daf that show a item similar to yours with a possible explanation for the missing cog spoke. You might also search for another thread that I cannot find that features an illustration from a well known older repro company offering these plaques some years ago.
