    Feuerwehr Tunic HELP

Have had this for a while, and have recently been told its a Fire Police Jacket, just been doing a bit of research, and all the ones that I have found seem to be dark blue, and not black. They also have very bright piping, whereas this is a dark red, and also there is no piping down the button line of the tunic. Anybody with a more specific identification?

    Cheers

It is an East German Feuerwehr tunic. Early ones were made with closed collars of Prussian Blue (almost black) wool like this one. The clincher is the method of attaching the shoulder straps with a string through the button requiring two holes. Some of these were marked "MdI" in the linings and some FFW tunics were privately made and not maker marked except on a removable tag.

The piping color on these tunics is called "Malino" in the DDR.
