Mothers Cross Type I and II

After a little "book" reading i have just found out the difference! There is a type I and a type II. There is a type I in gold, a type I in silver and a type I in bronze that appear to be made of these materials (gold and silver and bronze ) and sell for way more, in the low thousand's. The type II's are the most common ones available on the market. Now i just need someone to tell me why they made a type I and a type II? Anyone?? Also how do you tell if you have the Type I or II

I am not sure about the why. Type I’s have “Das Kind adelt die Mutter” along with Adolf Hitler’s signature engraved on the back. Type II’s have “16. Dezember 1938” along with Adolf Hitler’s signature engraved on the back. RonR has provided examples of both in a previous post in this thread. I also have a question. I have been looking of type I’s but have not ran across any. Has anyone seen any for sale within the past year? I am just trying to get a feel on just how hard they are to find.

As far as I know, it is not known, why Hitler chanched the text on the back of the mother's crosses. In my opinion NOT ONE of the awardees got the "Type I"-cross, but I do believe that examples were produced.

            Regards, Peter

                  Peter,

With all due respect, this one was obtained from a WW2 veteran a number of years ago..........

I was hoping for a bit more solid answer, at least backed up by more than only a personal opinion. I believe it has been awarded because i've seen about a dozen originals in different classes and cases over the years and have also some paperwork related to it. I also believe everybody who thinks that only the two types existed are wrong and that the by everyone called second type might actually be the third type and that also a fourth type existed.

                      Hi Ron !

Only a question: Have You YOURSELF got it from the family ? If so, I will believe, that type I was awarded, if not, I will keep my doubts about that.

I know, that's not an evidence, but my grandgrandmother and her friend, the mother of a Gauleiter both were under the first getting their mother's crosses in the "Ostmark". Both crosses were of 2nd type...

                      Kind regards,

                      Peter

                        Hello,

It's was here allready pointed out that the difference is on the reverse.

The 1.st form was awarded for very short time in 1939
Man who did the grafic work on this cross was Franz Berberich.
Only few them are around the world in private collection and they are extremly rare!

2.nd form is very common. That's all I can comment.

                        regards
                        Peter

In the 2013 book "Die Deschler Fotos", page 25, it says the first version, was never awarded.
