Strange SHD Tab- General Officer?

I have just received the strangest SHD tab. It is not the typical white/silver embroidery.

The embroidery is dark golden brown, as is the alternating piping, which is golden brown and green. The brown is even more pronounced in person.

When I first purchased the tab, I though that it was simply a dirty NCO/EM SHD tab. However, upon inspection this insignia is clean, mint, and completely unknown(at least to me).

So... my question to you:

What is this tab? Some sort of rank related variation?

Without doubt, reference is limited in this area. Have you tried looking at Littlejohn's book Defending the Reich?

Hi Dave,

I have "Defending the Reich". That is one awesome book. It goes into a lot of detail on a lot of things, but not much detail is placed onto the collar tabs. Sadly, Vol 2 of "Uniforms and Traditions of the Luftwaffe" has more information on the SHD and LSW collar tabs, but there is still no mention of this configuration.

My interest is definitely peaking. I know that there has to be a reason for the production of these different tabs.

I would buy this as being a variation if only the embroidery was brown. The fact that the twist cord was purposely manufactored in the green/brown configuration tells me that these tabs were made to be different for a specific reason.

What do you all think?

a very interesting collar tab, never seen bevor! And i'm sorry that i don't know anything about the meaning.
Do you know the black SHD-collar tabs, with and without oak leaves?

P.s.: "Defending the Reich" has really interesting photos, but it could have much more informations - a neglected chance. I was really disappointed that the book has no bibliography!

Which black tabs? I do know that the SHD transferred over to the regular LW and wore a black Waffenfarbe. Are these the tabs you were talking about?

i have original black (!) SHD- collar tabs and Weitze had a pair of black SHD- collar tabs with oak-leaves on it, wich i have seen also at an old picture...

Very interesting photos. I would love to see your insignia in the daylight. I have never seen black SHD tabs before.

What book is the photograph with the wreath SHD tabs in? I have a set of LWS tabs like that.

Hi. Those are some nice insignia. The NCO Beamte tabs are embroidered in gray. I think that the brownish tinge comes from the lighting.

Even if it is some manufactor screw up, what explains the outer piping? I feel that the SHD tabs were supposed to be in this color, for some reason.
