    Prussian Police Eagle? or SA-Feldjägerkorps?

Hello...Can anybody identify this piece? This one has me stumped but I believe I saw one on a visor cap.

    Thanks,

    John

This eagle design was the Wappen/crest of the State of Prussia after the Nazi takeover. It was incorporated for many of the state organization, including police and state officials. I do not recognize what organization used this particular eagle.

      HI Joe-

Thank you for the information . I did an exhaustive search and found an "abbreviated" version of the eagle on a number of insignia, that is to say the eagle was not as wide but so far have not found anything with the eagle in this version/size (5.5cm by 2.5cm). The construction and quality to me do seem to point towards this being a cap eagle.

        Hello,

I seem to remember seeing a large eagle like this being worn in a period photo on the brimless fez like cap of a miner in dress uniform. A pair of crossed hammers as a separate insignia was mounted below. My recollection could be off, but it is a possibility.

Yes, not the same. A similar miner's Shako was sold by Klaus last year. It was very beautiful with the feathered plumes.

HI, I want to thank everybody who commented...and Ron thank you for the photo of that fine piece.

The eagle seems to have Prussian origins, and then it appears the Miner's Organization added the shield and used it, and in different modified forms it was used by other organizations...there is something similar that was used by the HJ, as for this exact piece I guess it is a cap insignia of some sort? I have seen a similar eagle, usually with stud backings and rzm marks that was meant to go on HJ trumpets with many being unused.

                    HI Ron-

Thank you for the additional pictures.

The first one is the one that I believe is a Hitler Youth version. It is interestig to see the two side by side so one can indeed see the differences.

John, as this was a Prussian State insignia, there was no need for an RZM, as it was not for NSDAP use. In looking through some period references, I found nothing similar in the Atwood edition of the Assmann catalog ca.1960s. But in the Dez 1933 booklet "Uniformfibel" illustrated by Knotel d. J. I found drawings of uniforms worn by the Prussian Landesforest Beamten that featured a large eagle on the visor cap that looked like this Prussian state eagle. This would have been the logical use. I have seen one or two examples of such eagles of a size to fit on shakos.

Finally found it. I thought I had a photo somewhere. This is from the Al Barrows collection.

Prussian state official of some kind. Dark grey wool with red piping.

                          Thank you for the photo!

I believe I saw the eagle on a similar visor cap with such a cockade but the color of the cap was green.

John, that was probably one of the Prussian Forestry ones I mentioned above.
