    Hello,

Are these Gendarmerie officer's collar tabs correct?

Yes you are correct, used by all officer grades.

The base is orange and not faded something else right? If so, then they certainly could have been meant for the Gendarmerie. My other question if the bullion mutted/dull or was it bright? The bullion appears mutted and if that is true then I would expect to have seen these is use on a feldbluse.

          Thanks for your reactions!

          Dave,
They are orange coloured and not something else. And they are indeed dull examples. They are mint and unissued.

          regards Jim

I hope this isn't a silly thought, but could they also be used on an army officer's waffenrock in the recruiting branch?

As well as Gendarmerie Inspecktor rank (Meister boards with two pips).

                  Tanks Joe,

I can always count on you to remind me of the minutia that I have forgotten, or never knew!

Wasn't that rank abolished very early on after the consolidation of police forces?

                  Regards,

Wouldn't army tabs have an orange braid down the center? I must confess to knowing NOTHING about army insignia.

Joe, did this actually apply to Obermeister to Oberst from 1936-39? That's the way I have it in my notes and just trying to clarify. If so, then these could have been actually used for three other ranks - Obermeister, Inspector and Ober-Inspektor?

Bill, not consolidation but replaced with the "Revier" type officer grade rank straps with brown middle color in December of 1939.

                        G'day Bill.

I just checked one of my army dress tunics and the construction of the tabs is identical to the pair under discussion. The only difference is that my embroidery is shiny, which may be significant in this matter.

                        Best wishes for Christmas, Mike.

Mike, I think there is always that chance that recruiting might be the answer. But because of the relative "rarity" of that service compared with the ubiquitous Gendarmerie, a police answer rather than Heer is chosen.

Dave, the senior NCO ranks were Meister, Ober-Meister und Inspektor. At least according to the early uniform chart. But when the "Kriegsoffiziere" ranks were instituted, Ober-Meister and Inspektor were changed and Rev./Bez. Hauptmann was added. I don't think there was an Ober-Inspektor.

Ober-Inspektor (2 golden pips on Meister-shoulder boards) rank existed
In 1940 , when so-called Kriegoffizier ranks were established, were Inspektoren with more than 5 Dienstjahren & Oberinspektoren transferred to Revier-/Bezirks-hauptmanner
                            See Deuster book, pg. 33

                              Jiri,

Did Obermeister and Inspector ranks utilize silver pips? I had "gold" noted by rank of Ober-Inspektor. Other than that my notes are vague and I don't have the book in front of me at the meoment either. Thanks!
