    sun catcher

i wonder if anyone out there knows what this forestery sun catcher was for. and could u give me some idea what i should ask for it, if i sell it. it is approx.
6" x 9" the glass is surely hand blown , full of little bubbles and thickness variations. it is in a brass frame (which doesnt show up very well in the pictures.) the 4 corners of the brass frame are somewhat crudely soldered.
    any help would be appreciated.

I have no idea what it was for but I like it a lot, I'd certainly shell out $300 for it.

logo for german hunting association. which in one form or another existed pre & post third reich era (with out swastika of course).
I have my doubts to originally. most stained glass items are individual colored pieces of glass cut out & assembled together. this LOOKS like it's painted on, with stain glass paint on to a single piece of glass. plus the air bubbles is ussually a sign of low class glass , even hand blown.

Might be pre 45..... BUT, it is impressive, took some quality talent to do. & a must have for a collect of the hunting association items.
no doubt looks beautiful in the window with the sun showing through it.
thank you for showing us. jeff

        Hello,

Actually "painted" glass objects are a not uncommon folk art. I doubt that this piece had any "official" use. A DJ member could have just painted, or had it painted, for his own use.

That said it would be impossible to say when this was made. It could certainly have been done during the period, or it could have been made last week on an old piece of window glass. It IS well done though, and the maker was fairly talented, and it certainly would look nice in any DJ collection display, whenever it was made.

Who knows? have never seen another so I tend to believe it is a one off piece rather than a "pattern" that was copied. As I proffered earlier, it could very well have been a done by a DJ member or his family for personal display, or it could have been ordered from a local crafts person, but your hypothesis is as good as any. I'm afraid there is just no way to tell. I think the secret with this piece is to appreciate it for what it is. Even if done post war, it would cost you much more than $200 to procure a piece of hand blown window glass and then pay someone to paint the design. I would advise the owner to enjoy it and not try to figure it out

Unless it shows up in a period catalog or photo we can just never know. I think it looks great. I would be happy with it, whenever it was made to be honest.
