    Deutsche Jägerschaft Shooting Medals

    Gentlemen

Just wanted to show my latest acquisitions. A silver and a bronze 800mm shooting medals. Looking at it I wonder if it is a gold one rather than a bronze. What do you think?

I like the bronze one particularly. It has a lovely deep patina. The silver one has the scratched reverse which is so common as these were often mounted on wall plaques.

Both correctly maker marked. Nice clean examples and much higher quality than many one sees about.

Off to the e-table now I think. Anyone want them?

    All the best

    James

Nice acquisitions, congrats. I'd say the one on the right is bronze. The gold are rare and unmistakable. Would the silver (left example) be lighter than the other? They seemed to change the material composition along the way and 1938 is a later date for these. The marking on the back is not a maker, rather a design protection (Gesetzlich geschützt (abbreviated Ges. gesch.) means protected by law, patented, copyrighted)

      Thanks for your comments Dave.

Yes you are correct the silver one is a typical later version that is noticeably lighter than the bronze and the finish doesn't have the depth of colour that the earlier one had. I sold a bronze recently that was dated 1938 that was a sort of "paint" over a pot metal base - see how it has chipped and flaked - attached photo. It must have been a very cheap version because even the silver with the same date is way way better.

Thanks for reminding me about the Ges. gesch. A senior moment on my part.
